@SFState_VB Dominates Pioneers In Straight Sets Sweep

San Francisco – The SF State women's volleyball team did not need long, finishing Saturday night's match in just over an hour as the Gators swept the visiting Pioneers to take the season-series, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-16).

The Gators (12-12/10-9 CCAA) hit .333 as a team tonight with two players hitting over .500.  Sophomore Malia Muin had a breakout performance, tallying a career-high 12 kills while hitting an astounding .625.  The 12 kills was a match-high.  Jazmine Williams had a big night as well tallying 10 kills hitting .526 with two blocks.  Bria Morgan recorded 11 kills hitting .320.

Setter Jacquie Brice recorded 39 assists with six digs.  Jessica Nicerio tallied a match-high `17 digs with three aces.  For the weekend Nicerio had 48 digs with six aces.

In the opening set the Pioneers (9-14/6-14 CCAA) outhit the Gators .333 to .273 but it would not make a difference.  Tonight's match featured just 16 ties and seven lead changes, most of that coming in the first set, where there were nine ties and four lead changes.

The Pioneers led by as much as three, midway through the first set.  With the Pioneers leading 15-13 the Gators received a service ace from Nicerio and back to back kills by Williams to take the lead 16-15.  After the Pioneers tied the set up again at 16 all a kill by Morgan put the Gators out front for good, eventually taking the set 25-21 on a kill by Jaclyn Clark who recorded four of her nine kills in the set.

In the second and third set it was all SF State.  The Pioneers led the second set 6-2 early, but from there it was all Gators as they went on a massive run to take the frame 25-14.  SF State hit .438 and .325 in the second and third set to close out the match.  Meanwhile Cal State East Bay hit .000 in the second and .065 in the third with 13 errors.

After losing to the Pioneers in five sets at the Route 92 Showdown in Hayward on September 6, the Gators have taken six-straight sets against Cal State East Bay to win the season series 3-2.

The Gators return to action on Tuesday night when SF State hosts Sonoma State at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.  Tuesday's match will be senior night as the Gators will be saying goodbye to three phenomenal student-athletes
