La Jolla – The SF State women's basketball team's woes continued as they shot just 20.0 percent from behind the three point line, connecting on just 5-of-25, as the Gators fell to host UC San Diego 94-61 Saturday night at Rimac Arena.
Sophomore guard
Brittaney Allison's career-high 18 points and
Leticia Galarza's 10 off the bench was not enough to stem the tide as the Triton's scored a season-high 94 points. UC San Diego (8-5/6-2 CCAA) shot a red-hot 66.7 percent from the floor on the evening, going 40-for-60.
The Gators (0-12/0-8 CCAA) responded shooting 37.1 percent from the floor going 23-for-62. A big contributor to that number was the Gators shooting from behind the arc, they shot 0-for-13 from deep after the intermission.
Allison, making her seventh start of the season, shot an impressive 7-for-13 on the night. Galarza scored 10, in 24 minutes off the bench for the Gators.
Throughout most of the first half the Gators battled with the host team. The Gators were lighting it up from behind the arc early to keep them in the game. With 8:04 in the game
Taylor Ingraham hit a free throw to complete the traditional three point play and cut the Tritons' lead to five.
Over the final eight minutes UCSD went on a 20-8 run to go into the break leading 50-33.
Out of the intermission the Tritons kept up the pressure shooting 67.9 percent from the floor, going 19-for-28. Leading UC San Diego was former Gator Farrah Shokoor, who recorded a game-high 20 points while grabbing 15 rebounds.
Savannah Camp and
Jasmine Flanagan chipped in nine points each for the Gators, while senior
Michelle Sutton added eight.
