@SFState_WBB Has Three In Double Figures But Falls To Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO – The SF State women's basketball team came out on fire in the first half and was deadly from beyond three point range.  Unfortunately, even with three players in double figures the Gators could not overcome Cal State San Bernardino on the road, falling 80-53.

On the offensive side of the ball the Gators (0-17/0-13 CCAA) had three players in double figures, led by senior Michelle Sutton who scored a team-high 13 points.  Sutton finished the night going 4-for-8 from the floor, while dishing out six assists.

Brittaney Allison tallied 12 points on the night going 4-for-11 from the field and 3-for-7 from three point range.  Allison started the game red-hot scoring nine points early going 3-for-4 from beyond the arch in the opening period.  Leticia Galarza finished with 10 points going 4-for-9 from the field.

The Gators came out on fire early, starting the game 4-for-6 from three point range, during that time the SF State jumped out to an early first half lead.  Ultimately, they finished the opening half going 5-for-14 from behind the arc and finished the game 6-for-28.

In the opening period the Gators scored first when Sutton hit a three to kick off the impressive first half of scoring for the Gators.  Galarza hit a three point bucket with 15:34 in the half to give the Gators a 14-4 lead, the 10 point lead was their largest lead of the game.  From there SF State maintained the lead for most of the half.

The 10 point lead would not last long but SF State did not relinquish the lead until the Coyotes' (13-4/9-4 CCAA) Chelsea Austin hit a three point bucket to tie the game at 23 with 5:40 left in the half.

The Coyotes closed out the half on a 9-4 run to go into the intermission with a 34-27 lead.  CSUSB was propelled by their strong play from the inside.  The Coyotes scored 10 points in the paint in the opening half nine second chance points.

The second half belonged to the Coyotes.  Briana Harden scored 14 of her game-high 18 points.  She finished with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.  She was one of four CSUSB players to record double-digits in scoring.

The Gators return to action on Saturday when they travel to Arcata, Calif., to take on Humboldt State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
