Even Though @SFState_WSOC Out Shoots Tritons, Gators Fall 2-0

LA JOLLA â€“Even though holding an 18-8 shot advantage, the SF State Gators lost 2-0 to the UC San Diego Tritons this afternoon in a CCAA match-up in La Jolla, Calif.  The Tritons (8-4-1, 4-3-1 CCAA) scored both of their goals in the final 13 minutes of the match.

Kelcie Brodsky recorded 8 saves en route to the shutout for the hosts while Karin Nordin had no saves in goal for the Gators (6-4-3-, 2-2-3 CCAA).

It looked like the Gators were going to take the lead in the fourth minute as Bianca Lowe's shot on goal attempt off a corner kick by Kelsey Wetzstein as Brodsky recorded one of her eight saves  on the day.

SF State had another chance to take the lead, but Brittany Oldham's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Triton goalkeeper in the 16th minute.  The Gators had three more chances in the final minutes of the first half to take the lead, but Autumn Fox and Vanessa Penuna had their shots either sail wide or be blocked as the match went scoreless into the half.

The Gators came out firing early in the second half, but neither attempt by Kayleen Belda or Jada Williams got into the back of the net.  Laura Shea saw her attempt be blocked by the Triton defense in the 57th minute.

UC San Diego had its attempt in the 68th minute sail high over the net off the foot of Megumi Barber.  Then nine minutes later, Wetzstein saw her attempt be stopped by Brodsky.

The Tritons took the 1-0 lead in the 78th minute as Mary Reilly connected on a throw-in by Jordyn McNutt and pass from Kierrra Bocchino.

Penuna had an attempt to tie the match in the 81st minute, but her shot sailed high over the goal.

UC San Diego doubled its lead in the 87th minute, when Danielle Nunn connected on a cross from Katie O'Laughlin as the Tritons sealed the 2-0 win.

The Gators will return home as they begin a four-match home stand this Friday, October 16th for a 3pm match with Cal State L.A.
