SAN FRANCISCO– Tatiana Zuvic connected on a free kick from Veronika Steen that went to Anahie Duran who flicked it to Zuvic for the golden goal in the 104
th for the game-winner in Cal State L.A.'s 1-0 win over the SF State Gators in a CCAA match-up at SF State's Cox Stadium. This was Zuvic's first goal of the season as Cal State L.A. improved to 5-5-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCAA.
The Gators held a 14-12 advantage in shot attempts, but Cal State L.A. had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and a 6-3 advantage in shot on goals. The first half saw just 7 combined shot attempts including three on goal. The first on goal attempt came in the 15
th minute as the Gators'
Karin Nordin stopped Bianca Adame's attempt to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. In the 20
th minute,
Bianca Lowe saw her attempt to give the Gators the lead be stopped by the Golden Eagles' Adriana Maldonado.
Cal State L.A. had another chance at the lead in the 25
th minute, but Nordin stopped Veronika Steen's attempt to give the Golden Eagles a lead.
Kimber Lohman saw her attempt for a goal sail high for the Gators in the 35
th minute as the match went scoreless into the half.
The Gators came out strong in the second half as
Brittany Oldham had a chance to give the hosts the lead, but Maldonado recorded the save in the 46
th minute. Then three minutes later,
Paige Yeider had her attempt be blocked by the Golden Eagles' defense.
Oldham had another chance to give the Gators the lead, but Maldonado came up big in the 76
th minute for one of her three saves as the match went into the overtime period scoreless.
In the first overtime period, the Gators'
Danielle Vidal had a chance for the golden goal be blocked in the 99
th minute. In the final seconds of the first overtime, the Golden Eagles' Katelyn Fregoi had a chance for the golden goal but the Gator defense stopped the attempt as the match went scoreless into the second overtime.
SF State (6-5-3, 2-3-3 CCAA) had two chances early in the second overtime sail wide one by Oldham and the second by Lowe. Then in the 104
th minute, is when Zuvic's golden goal happen as Cal State L.A. took the 1-0 lead.
At halftime of the match, SF State President Les Wong presented Professor Burcu Ellis as the Gators' honorary captain. Professor Ellis is from the Department of Foreign Relations and has taught at SF State since 2002.

SF State will return to the pitch this Sunday afternoon at 2pm, when the Gators host Cal State Dominguez Hills at Cox Stadium. The Toros lost 2-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay this afternoon in Seaside, Calif.
