SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gators recorded their school record 8
th shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over the visiting Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes. The Gators held the Coyotes without a shot on goal attempt as
Ashley Watson connected on a penalty kick in the 63
rd minute for the game-winner.
SF State (6-6-3, 2-5-3 CCAA) outplayed its opponents this afternoon as the Gators outshot CSUSB 17-9 including 5-0 in shot on goal attempts. The Coyotes held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Daniel Herrera had a chance to give SF State an early lead in the first minute, but his shot sailed wide right. The Coyotes (3-7-3, 1-5-3 CCAA) had their chance in the third minute be blocked by the Gator defense off the foot of Hieu Ngo.

th minute saw his shot on goal attempt be stopped by the Coyotes' Ivan Sanchez. Then three minutes later, Herrera saw his attempt to give the Gators the lead be blocked by the Coyote defense. The Gators had their final chance in the half be stopped by Sanchez once again, this time off the foot of
Brandon Brunac in the 42
nd minute. Two minutes later, Tony Lo's shot hit the post for the Coyotes as the match went into the half scoreless.
Early in the second half, Luca Falcone had a chance to give the visitors a lead but it sailed high. In the 63
rd minute, the Coyotes were called for a hand ball in the box and Watson connected on his second goal fo the season to give the Gators the 1-0 lead.
Armando Flores tried to double the Gator lead, but his shot sailed wide left in the 65
th minute as did Herrera's shot in the 67
th minute.
Robert Kelly also had a chance to give SF State a 2-0 lead, but his shot attempt was stopped by Sanchez in the 71
st minute.
Cal State San Bernardino had one final chance to tie the match in the 83
rd minute, but Felix Klaphake's shot sailed high as the Gators held on for the 1-0 victory.
Sanchez had five saves in goal for the Coyotes while
Emmanuel Jimenez had no saves in goal for SF State en route to his 5.5 shutout of the season.
The Gators will close out their home part of their schedule this Sunday at 2pm, when they host No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 1-0 in Seaside today.
