@SFState_WSOC Defeat Broncos 3-2 On Senior Day

SAN FRANCISCO---  The SF State Gators ended their home part of their 2015 schedule with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (8-5-2, 4-4-1 CCAA) this afternoon on Senior Day at SF State's Cox Stadium.  Taylor Halstenson scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 79th minute on a ball from Autumn Fox as SF State finished 5-3-1 at home.

Prior to the match, the Gators recognized their four seniors in Karin Nordin, Molly Schuster, Kaylyn Toyama and Danielle Vidal.

The Gators (8-6-3, 4-4-3 CCAA) still alive for a berth in the six-team CCAA Soccer Championships that begin on November 1 at the sites of the number three and four seeds.  The top two seeds have a first round bye.
SF State will need to defeat Chico State this Saturday afternoon and hope Cal Poly Pomona, Stanislaus State and or Humboldt State loses both of their matches this weekend.

Laura Shea gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead when she connected on a ball from Kaylan Toyama and Molly Schuste in the 17th minute.  Shea scored her second goal of the season which she sent into the upper right corner of the goal from 5 yards out.  SF State had two chances to double their lead 20 minutes later, as Vanessa Penuna and Autumn Fox both had their shots on goal attempts stopped by the Broncos' Ricki Ives.  Schuster had a chance to give SF State a 2-0 lead, but the Bronco defense stopped her attempt in the 38th minute.

In the 42nd minute, Paige Yeider scored her first goal as a Gator as she connected on a ball from Isabella Nazario and Fox to give the hosts a 2-0 lead heading into the half.  The Broncos cut the Gator lead in half nine minutes into the new half as Rachel Killigrew scored off a pass from Reanne Macon.

SF State had two chances to a little distance between the Gators and their opponents but Ives stopped both Penuna and Kimber Lohman's attempt in the 60th minute.

The Broncos looked like they were going to tie the match at 2-1 in the 72nd minute but Nordin made one of her nine saves on the day stopping Macon's attempt.  Six minutes later, Taylor Halstenson scored her first goal of the season off a ball from Fox to give the Gators a 3-1 lead.

The Broncos did make it interesting in the end as Hailey James scored from 15-yards out on unassisted goal in the 89th minute.  SF State did not allow a shot attempt in the final minute by the Broncos as they held on for the 3-2 victory.

The Gators will return to the pitch for the final time this regular season as they travel to Chico, Calif., for a 2pm starting match this Saturday, October 31 with the Chico State Wildcats.
