@SFState_WSOC and HSU Play to a 1-1 Double OT Draw

SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gator women's soccer team outshot their visitors 27-5 including 7-2 in shot on goal attempts, but they could not outscore Humboldt State this afternoon as the two teams played to a 1-1 double overtime tie this afternoon at Cox Stadium.  With the tie, the Gators are now 6-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the CCAA.

Caitlin Plese recorded seven saves in goal for the Lumberjacks (6-4-1, 3-2-1 CCAA) while Karin Nordin had two in goal for the hosts.

The Gators controlled the final 65 minutes of the match as they outshot the Lumberjacks 20-3, but they could not find the back of the net.  They also had a 6-2 corner kick advantage.

Bianca Lowe recorded the first shot on goal attempt of the match in the second minute, but Plese recorded on of her match high 7 saves.  Four minutes later, Vanessa Penuna saw her attempt to give the Gators the lead hit the post.  Lowe had two more chances in the ninth minute for a goal be stopped by the Lumberjack defense.

In the 23rd minute, the Gators were called for a foul and Bridget Daley took advantage connecting on a free kick from 30 yards out to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.  That was her fifth goal of the season.
The Gators drove right down the pitch after that, but Penuna had both of her shot on goal attempts be stopped by the Lumberjack defense.

SF State had one final chance to tie the match, but Hannah Mikles had her shot on goal attempt be stopped by Plese as the match went into the halftime with a Humboldt State 1-0 lead.  In the second half, Penuna had a chance to tie the match in the 53rd minute but it hit the crossbar.  Thirty seconds later, Danielle Vidal had a shot attempt sail high for the Gators. 

At the 57th minute, the Gators tied the match at 1-1 when Humboldt State scored an own goal. It looked like the Gators were going to take the lead but Brittany Oldham's shot sailed wide left in the 76th minute as did Taylor Halstenson's shot in the 79th minute.

With two minutes left in regulation, the Gators had one final chance to take the lead but Kimber Lohman's shot was blocked by the Lumberjack defense as the match went into overtime tied at 1-1.

The Gators had four chances for the golden goal in the first five minutes of the first overtime, but all sailed wide right or high as the match went into the second overtime still tied at 1-1.  Penuna had her seventh shot attempt, but this time her golden goal attempt was stopped by the Lumberjack goalie in the 107th minute.  Halstenson, one minute later, saw her chance to be the hero sail high as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Gators will be on the road next weekend for their next two matches of the season.  On Friday, October 9, SF State will be in San Marcos for a 12:30pm starting match with Cal State San Marcos.  Then on Sunday, October 11 at 11:30am, SF State will be in La Jolla for a match with UC San Diego.
