SAN FRANCISCO--- The SF State Gators finished their non-conference part of their schedule with a perfect 6-0 record after a 81-50 defeat over the visiting Northwest Nazarene Crusaders this evening at The Swamp at The Don Nasser Family Plaza. With the win, the Gators go into winter break with a 6-3 overall record with five wins over NCAA Division II West Region opponents.
Treaven Duffy paced the Gators with a season high 20 points as he went 8 for 9 from the field including 2 for 2 from three-point land and connecting on both of his attempts from the line in 17 minutes off the bench.
Andre Jones added 14 points for the hosts with
Floyd Wormley 10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and four steals for the Gators.
SF State forced 21 turnovers by its opponents with 13 coming off of steals. The Gators also had 17 assists on their 30 made baskets with 7 coming from Wormley and three from
Coley Apsay and two each from
Warren Jackson,
Jon McMurry and Jones.
The Gators held the Crusaders to just 35% shooting from the field including 29% from three-point land. They also out-rebounded Northwest Nazarene (4-4) 36-25 and their bench outscored the Crusaders 42-26.
SF State took a 13-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game capped by two made free throws by Apsay. The Crusaders cut the deficit to single digits (15-7) on a made tip-in by Detwon Rogers, but the Gators increased their lead to 38-16 heading into the locker room on a made three by Duffy off an assist from Wormley.
The Gators opened up the second half scoring the first 8 points to increase their lead to 46-16 on a tip-in by Jackson in the first five minutes of the new stanza.
SF State built its largest lead of the game with 6:10 to go, 72-39, on a lay-up by Jones off an assist from Jackson as the Gators cruised to a 81-50 non-conference victory.
Joel Devastey led the Crusaders with 11 points while Buona N'Diaye added 10 points for the visitors.
The Gators will return to conference action in the New Year on January 1 as they travel across the Bay for a 4pm scheduled tip-off in Hayward, Calif., against Cal State East Bay.
