Fresno Pacific Rallies to Defeat @SFState_BASE 7-4

SAN FRANCISCO-  The visiting Fresno Pacific Sunbirds rallied from a 4-2 deficit to defeat the SF State Gators 7-4 this afternoon in the first game of this weekend's three-game series.  SF State pounded out 12 hits with three coming off the bat of Mark Lindsay (3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI).

The Sunbirds (7-2) took a 2-0 lead with a two-run second inning.

SF State (2-6) scored four runs on six hits in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead.  Nick Jackson had a lead-off double and went to third on a single by Fernando Escobar.  With the count 1-2, Jacob Lopez hit a two-run double to center field to tie the game at 2-2.  Still with no outs, Mark Lindsay hit a single through the right side to drive in Lopez with the go-ahead run.  Lindsay later scored on double to left center by Garrett Heisinger

The  Sunbirds cut the Gator lead in half on a one-out single by John Koretoff in the sixth.

Then in the top of the seventh, the guests took a 5-4 lead with a two-run seventh as Michael Hostetler hit a one-out single to score McKay France with the go-ahead run.

Fresno Pacific added two insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Michael Tittle to give the visitors a 7-4 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Jake Martinez (2-0) picked up the win for the guests, pitching 6 innings, giving up 11 hits and four runs while striking out four.  Tanner Irwin recorded his second save by pitching a scoreless ninth.

Besides Lindsay's three hits, Escobar and Jackson each had two hits apiece for the Gators. Nolan Sheridan (0-3) recorded the loss, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and five runs (two earned), striking out 5 and walking one.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow morning with a doubleheader starting at 11am at Maloney Field.
