SAN FRANCISCO – Trailing by as much as 17 midway through the second half the SF State women's basketball team cut the deficit to seven, but that is where the rally would end as Cal State Stanislaus held on for the 65-55 win Friday night at the SF State Gymnasium at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
The Gators (0-23/0-19 CCAA) Shot 33.3 percent on the evening, going 19-for-57, plaguing the Gators was their percentage from deep, as SF State connected on just 3-of-20 from deep. A slow first half put the Gators in a 10 point hole at the intermission. In that period the Gators shot just 27.6 percent from the field, going 8-for-29 and 0-for-9 from three point range.
The Warriors (7-16/5-14 CCAA) was sloppy with the ball all night, committing 24 turnovers that led to 31 points for the Gators. The one area they did well in was shooting from deep. CSUS hit 9-for-21 from deep, going 4-for-11 in the first and 5-for-10 in the second.
Leading the Gators was sophomore guard
Brittaney Allison. Allison was the only SF State player in double figures, she finished with 11 points, going 4-for-10 on the night, while grabbing three rebounds.Â
Michelle Sutton scored nine, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Defensively, the Gators did a solid job, they held the Warriors to just 47 shot attempts on the evening. The Gators even held their own in the rebounds department, grabbing 33 to the Warriors 38.Â
CSUS came out of the intermission and scored seven quick points to take a 17 point lead, going up 41-24. Over the next five minutes the Gators chipped away at that lead,
Leticia Galarza scored all four of her points during that stretch, while Sutton and Allison each hit threes.Â
With 3:03 remaining the Gators offense and rally went cold, with the Warriors up 10 that's where the score would remain, 65-55.
SF State returns to action tomorrow night, playing their final home contest of the season against Chico State. There will be a pre-game ceremony to honor the four senior student athletes playing their final home game. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.Â
