SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State softball team and No. 20 Humboldt State resumed their four-game CCAA series on Saturday, with the Lumberjacks taking both games of the double header, winning game one 9-1 in six innings before taking the nightcap 9-1 in five. Senior shortstop
Courtney Gravel collected three hits on the day.
The Gators (1-11/0-8) are still looking for the bats to wake up, SF State combined for just nine hits on the afternoon. Senior shortstop
Courtney Gravel collected three of those hits, going 1-for-3 in the opener and 2-for-2 in the nightcap. She also scored the Gators only runs.
In the first game the Gators once again squared off against Humboldt State's ace Katie Obbema (4-2). Unfortunately for SF State, once again Obbema got the better of the Gators, going 6.0 complete, scattering five hits, an unearned run, with a pair of strike outs.
The Gators countered with sophomore lefty
Megan Clark (0-5). Clark entered the game fresh off her best performance of the season. Today however, she was not as sharp. The Lumberjacks scored four runs, three of them earned on Clark, who exited after three inning of work, surrendering seven hits, with two walks and two strike outs.
The Lumberjacks (7-4/4-0 CCAA) scored two in the second and two more in the top of the third. In the second a walk and a hit batter eventually came around to score on a one out double by HSU shortstop Cyndi Chavez.
In the top of the fourth inning the
Jenny Obbema entered the game for the Gators and squared off against her sister. J. Obbema threw a scoreless top of the fourth but ran into trouble in the fifth and sixth inning. She finished the game throwing 3.0 complete, allowing nine hits, five runs, all earned.
The Gators scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gravel led off the inning with a single to center field. She moved over to second on the sacrifice bunt by catcher
Sara Higa, and moved over to third on the error by the Lumberjacks.
Lucy Fernandez hit a sharp ground ball to shortstop that allowed Gravel to score.

Jennifer Lewis also collected hits for the Gators.
In the nightcap
Aryn Guzman (0-3) took the ball for the #Gators and she was roughed up for eight hits, six runs, with two walks and a strike out.
The Lumberjacks scored one in the first, four in the second and one in the third to end her day. The continued adding a run in the fourth and two in the fifth, coming off relief pitcher
Courtney Dunkel.
Gravel went 2-for-2 on the day, scoring the Gators lone run which came in the fourth inning. Also collecting a hit in the game was
Lucy Fernandez who went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
Jennifer Lewis showed signs her bat is waking up when she took a pitch to the opposite field gap for a double.
Earning the win for Humboldt State was starter Madison Williams who threw three innings, scattering two hits with three strike outs. Two relievers went the rest of the way for the Jacks. Kellsie Domnitz threw an inning as did Robin Johnson.
The Gators return to action on Friday, February 27 when they travel to Chico, Calif., to take on Chico State for a four-game CCAA series. Game one on Friday starts at noon.
