@SFState_SOFT On Wrong End Of Offensive Outburst

ROHNERT PARK – After splitting the first two games of the series on Friday, the SF State softball team was unable to take the series, falling to Sonoma State in five innings in both contests, dropping Saturday's opener 16-1 before falling in the finale 9-0.

Sonoma State (35-16/21-10 CCAA) pounded out 25 runs on 32 hits on the afternoon.  The Seawolves raced out to big leads, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first in game one, and three runs in the first inning in game two.

The Gators (11-37/2-26 CCAA) managed just eight hits and scored one run on the afternoon.  Their lone run coming in the top of the fifth in game one. 

Taking the ball for the Gators in the opener was starter Megan Clark (4-17).  Clark lasted just a third of an inning.  She surrendered four hits, seven runs, all earned with two walks.  Back-to-back home runs and a walk ended the day for Clark.

Courtney Dunkel took the ball for SF State in relief, she lasted just 1.2 innings, and was roughed up for 14 hits, allowing nine runs, all earned, with a walk and a strike out.  Lindsey Cassidy threw two innings of scoreless relief, scattering two hits, while recording a strike out.

Amanda Llerena (20-10) started both contests for Sonoma State.  She pitched two perfect innings in game one before being lifted for relief pitcher Gabby Dupree (4-0).  Dupree threw 3.0 complete, scattering three hits, one earned run with a walk to earn the win.

The Gators scored their lone run of the day in the top of the fifth inning.  A two-out base hit by Aryn Guzman scored Celeste Adriano from third.  In the opener of Saturday's doubleheader Courtney Gravel went 1-for-3, the base-hit in the top of the fourth was Gravel's 188th career-hit which is sixth all-time at SF State.

In the series finale, the Seawolves scored three runs in the first, two in the second, a run in the third and three in the fourth.  Jenny Obbema (3-8) was the starter for SF State in game two.  She threw 1.0 inning, surrendering six hits, five runs, all earned with a walk.

Guzman pitched three innings in relief, allowing six hits, four runs, all earned.  Llerena went the distance in game two for Sonoma State, she threw 5.0 complete, scattering five hits, with a walk and four strike outs.

Selina Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles in game two.  Sara Higa and Lucy Fernandez both clubbed doubles.

The Gators return home on Friday, starting a four-game series against Bay Area rival Cal State East Bay.  Game one of Friday's twin-billing begins at 1:00 p.m. with game two slated for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.  Saturday will be senior day for the Gators.
