@SFState_WSOC Blanks Cavaliers, 1-0

SAN FRANCISCOAutumn Fox connected on a pass from Vanessa Penuna in the 56th minute for what to be the game-winner in the SF State Gators' 1-0 win over the visiting Concordia Cavaliers (2-1-1).  With the win, the Gators improve to 2-2 on the year including 2-0 at home.

The Gators outshot their visitors 12-6 including 5-2 in shot on goal attempts.  They also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

SF State came out of the gate firing as it looked like the Gators were going to take a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Nicole Franklin stopped Kimber Lohman's chance to give the hosts the lead. Then two minutes later, Fox's shot sailed high over the goal.

In the 21st minute, the Cavaliers had their only chance in the half be stopped by the Gators' Karin Nordin, which came off the foot of Bobbi Eckler.

SF State had another chance for the lead, but Kelsey Wetzstein's shot was stopped by Franklin in the 39th minute.  Then with two minutes left, Hannah Mikles shot was blocked by the Cavalier defense to send the match into the half with the score tied 0-0.

The Gators took the 1-0 lead in the tenth minute of the second half when Autumn Fox's shot sailed over the Cavaliers' goalkeeper for what proved to be the game-winner off a ball from Vanessa Penuna.
Concordia came right down the pitch after the Gator goal, but Ariel Kanable's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Nordin to keep the score at 1-0 SF State.

The guests had another chance for the tie, but Gabrielle Ewing's shot sailed wide left in the 84th minute as the Gators held on for the 1-0 non-conference win.

SF State will return to the pitch this Tuesday afternoon at 4pm, when the Gators travel to San Rafael for a non-conference match with the Dominican (Calif.) Penguins.
