TURLOCK – The SF State Gators and the Stanislaus State Warriors opened up their 2015 CCAA season playing to a scoreless double overtime draw at Warrior Stadium this evening in Turlock. The Gators are now 3-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the CCAA while the Warriors are 4-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the CCAA.
The Gators outshot their hosts 11-10 including 5-4 in shots on goal. In the two overtime periods, SF State had four shots to the Warriors' two. SF State also had all three of the match's corner kicks.
Karin Nordin recorded four saves in regulation for SF State while
Arianna Wesley was in goal for the two overtime periods. Chelsea Lewandowski had four saves in goal for the Warriors.
This was the first time since 2008 that SF State has not lost to the Warriors.
Jade Poon had the match's first chance for a goal, but her shot attempt was stopped by the Gators' Nordin in the 14
th minute.
Autumn Fox then had a chance to give the visitors the lead, but Lewandowski stopped the attempt in the 18
th minute.
The Warriors had another chance in the 42
nd minute for the lead, but Gator 'keeper stopped the attempt to send the match scoreless into halftime.
Early in the second half, the Gators'
Taylor Halstenson saw her attempt be stopped by Lewandowski in the 49
th minute. The Warriors had a chance to take the lead in the 89
th minute, but Nordin stopped Nichole Donald's attempt from being the hero.
With 45 seconds left in regulation, Lewandowski stopped Natasha Gosaico's attempt from being the hero as the match was sent into overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Gators came out firing but Lewandowski stoppe Halstenson's and Penuna's attempt from scoring the golden goal. Penuna had another chance in the 95
th minute off a corner kick from Halstenson, but the Warrior defense blocked her attempt as the match went into the second overtime period.
There was only one shot attempt in the second overtime at the 109
th minute, but Kirsten Coleman's shot attempt was stopped by the Gator defense as the match ended into a scoreless draw.
The Gators will return to the pitch this Sunday at 2pm in Hayward, Calif., for aanother CCAA match-up this time with the Cal State East Bay Pioneers. Cal State Monterey Bay lost 1-0 earlier this evening to the Pioneers in Hayward.
