HAYWARD – The SF State Gators used a strong offensive attack in the second half to defeat the Cal State East Bay Pioneers (3-5-0, 1-1-0 CCAA) 4-1 this afternoon at Pioneer Field in Hayward. With the win, the Gators finish their opening CCAA weekend 1-0-1 and improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CCAA.
Isabella Nazario gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in just the second minute of the match off a pass from Autumn Box into the middle of the box. This was Nazario's second goal of the season.
It looked like the Gators were going to double their lead, but Fox shot sailed wide right in the 13
th minute and
Brittany Oldham's shot sailed high over the goal in the 14
th minute.
Kayleen Belda had a chance to double SF State's lead, but Katelyn Oshima recorded one of her five save on the day in the 18
th minute.
Cal State East Bay's Megan Ravenscroft tried to the match, but the Gators'
Arianna Wesley stopped the Pioneer attempt to keep the score at 1-0 SF State.
The score remained 1-0 visitors until the 42
nd minute, when Nicole Stamper connected on a ball from the left side from Miranda Gonzalez to tie the match at 1-1.
The hosts had a chance to take the lead, but Wesley made her second of three saves in the half.
SF State came out strong in the second half just like it did in the first half as the Gators took the lead back I the 48
th minute on a goal by
Bianca Lowe to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Lowe connected on her first game-winning goal of the season sailing the ball over the goalkeeper's head into the back of the net.
The Gators increased their lead to 3-1, 50 seconds later as
Kayleen Belda connected on her second goal of the season as she scored from 15-yards out.
Sara Silva had a chance to cut into the Gator lead, but
Karin Nordin stopped the Pioneer midfielder's attempt in the 70
th minute.
The Gators sealed the win in the 87
th minute as
Kimber Lohman scored her first goal of the season as she dribbled the ball and kicked into the right corner of the net to give SF State a 4-1 lead.
Cal State East Bay had one more chance to cut the deficit, but Andrea Hernandez's attempt sailed wide left as the Gators took the 4-1 CCAA road victory.
SF State will return home this Tuesday afternoon at 4pm for its final non-conference match of the season. The Gators will host Holy Names University at Cox Stadium.
