Danielle Vidal scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 65
th minute off a cross from
Autumn Fox as the visiting Gators defeated the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 2-1 this afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex in Seaside. The Gators are 6-0-1 since starting the season with two road losses.
The Gators (6-2-1, 2-0-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the first minute as
Isabella Nazario connected on her third goal of the season as she beat the Otter goalkeeper in the second minute of the match.
The visitors had a chance to increase their lead, but
Jada Williams shot was stopped four minutes later. SF State had one more chance to double its lead, but
Vanessa Penuna's shot sailed wide left as the match went into halftime with the Gators leading 1-0.
It looked like the Gators were going to increase their lead but both of their chances were stopped by the Otter defense in the 54
th minute. Then in the 55
th minute, Tayler Halstenson's shot was stopped by the Cal State Monterey Bay defense once again to keep the score at 1-0 Gators.
One minute later, Regan Porteous tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Regan Porteous off a pass from Taylor Duplantier.
SF State did not let the score remained tied for long as in the 65
th minute, Vidal connected on what proved to be the game-winner off a cross from Fox for her second goal of the season.
The Otters (3-6, 0-3 CCAA) had a chance to tie the match at 2-2, but the Gator defense came up big in the 88
th minute stopping Michelle Garrone's shot of going into the back of the net as the visitors held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Gators outshot their hosts 14-6 including 9-2 in shots on goal.
They will return home to host a pair of CCAA games this weekend beginning with this Friday, October 2 at 12:30pm when the Sonoma State Seawolves come to Cox Stadium. Then on Sunday, October 4, SF State will face Humboldt State in a conference match beginning at 11:30am.
