Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

For the Second Time this Season, @SFState_MSOC Plays To A 1-1 Double OT Tie

SANTA ROSA  – For the third straight match, the San Francisco State Gators had their match this afternoon go into the second overtime period.  The visiting Gators and the Sonoma State Seawolves played to a 1-1 draw this afternoon at Cook Sypher Field in Santa Rosa.

The match was scoreless until the 19th minute when Ranier Plantinos connected on his fourth goal of the season off a cross from Ashley Watson to give San Francisco State Gators (6-6-2, 3-5-2 CCAA) the earlier 1-0 lead.  This was Watson's second assist of the season.

San Francisco State held the 1-09 lead until 17 minutes left in the match, when Maury Lopez connected on a pass from Evan Roehrig that he headed in for the tying goal for the Seawolves (6-2-5, 5-1-2 CCAA).  Each team had chances late in regulation, but neither team could put the ball into the back of the net as the match went into the sudden death period.

The Gators had a chance for the golden goal be blocked by the Sonoma State defense as Dzenet Heljo had his chance to be hero stopped in the 98th minute.  Sonoma State did not attempt a shot in the first overtime.   Ashley Watson had a chance for the golden goal, but his shot sailed wide right in the 104th minute.  Then with the clock winding down Emmanuel Jimenez recorded his 10th save of the match by stopping Maury Lopez's golden goal attempt as the match ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie.

The Gators will return to the pitch on Monday, October 24 at noon for a non-conference match at UC Santa Cruz.
