UC San Diego Rallies To Defeat @SFState_MSOC, 2-1

SAN FRANCISCO– UC San Diego rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the San Francisco Sdtate Gators 2-1 this afternoon in a CCAA match at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium.  Uly De La Cruz scored the game-winner for the visitors with nine minutes left off a cross from Justice Duerksen.

The match was evenly played in the first 29 minutes until the Gators took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andy Altamirano off a cross from Richard Leon .  This was Altmariano's second goal of the season.  The Gators had two chances to double its lead late in the first half, but Francisco Saucedo's shots sailed high over the net.  Altamirano had a chance to double the Gators' lead in the 70th m9inute, but Cameron McElfresh recorded one of his 5 saves on the day.

The Tritons (8-1-2, 3-1-1 CCAA) tied the match in the 79th minute on a Justice Duerksen penalty kick.  Duerksen then assisted on the game-winner by Uly de la Cruz in the 81st minute.  The Gators (6-5, 3-4 CCAA) had two chances to tie the match, but Ranier Plantinos and Richard Leon's were either stopped by McElfresh or sailed high over the net.  They will host Cal State San Marcos this Sunday, October 9 at 2pm.  The Cougars defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 2-1 in Seaside earlier today.

STREAK SNAPPED:  UC San Diego snapped the Gators' five-match home winning streak today in the 2-1 win.

FIRST ASSIST:  Richard Leon recorded his first assist this afternoon, which is oddity because usually he is on the receiving end.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH:  "We just lost our rhythm in the second half, tough match for us but we need to come bounce back on Sunday," said SF State head coach Javier Ayala-Hil.  "We need to move forward and give 100% agaisnte Cal State San Marcos."

ALTMARINO/JIMENEZ:  Andy Altamirano scored his second goal of the season to go along with his one assist on the year. Emmanuel Jimenez recorded four saves in goal for the Gators.

HOME SUNDAY:  San Francisco State will look to bounce back from this loss this Sunday at 2pm, when they host Cal State San Marcos.
