Nationally Ranked @SFState_MBB To Host Humboldt State in a Sunday Matinee

SAN FRANCISCO–  The No. 21 San Francisco State Gators' men's basketball team will host Humboldt State this Sunday, December 18 at 4pm in a conference showdown at The Swamp at The Don Nasser Family Plaza.  The Gators, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Paul Trevor, are off to their best start in program history.

San Francisco State, who is also No. 16 in the DII Media Poll, is currently 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA.  The Gators are one of 14 teams in the nation in NCAA Division II that are undefeated.  They are coming off a 2-0 weekend in which they defeated conference rival Sonoma State 65-63 on the road and Simpson University 102-59. 

SFSU is averaging 84.1 points per game while giving up 65.5 points per game.  The trio of Warren Jackson, Coley Apsay and AJ Kahlon are leading the way for the Gators with their 16.6, 13.1 and 11.7 scoring averages.  Kahlon is also averaging a team leading 10.7 rebounds per game to go with his 23 blocked shots.  Apsay leads the team with his 32 steals and 54.5% shooting from three-point land while Jackson has a team high 45 assists.

Humboldt State is 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA after going 1-1 this past weekend on the road in the CCAA.  The Lumberjacks lost 96-73 at Chico State and came back the next night with a 78-58 win at Stanislaus State.  Nikhil Lizotte leads the way with his 14.9 scoring average and 43.8% shooting from three's. 
After this Sunday's matinee, the Gators will return to the court on New Year's Eve when they travel to Chico, Calif., for a 3:30pm CCAA game with Chico State.

GAME NOTES
GATORS:  San Francisco State is 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA. They are currently ranked No. 21 in the NABC and No. 16 in the Division II Media Poll.  This is the first time in program history that the Gators have been ranked in the top-25 in the nation for back to back weeks.

TIED FOR SECOND:  The Gators are tied for second in the D2SIDA Media Poll West Region Poll.  This is the third consecutive week that they have been in the top ten in this poll.  The last three weeks they are either fourth or fifth.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  AJ Kahlon and Warren Jackson reach recorded double-doubles in the Gators' 102-59 win over Simpson University this past Saturday.  Kahlon scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Jackson scored 10 points and dished out 10 assists.  This was Kahlon's sixth double-double of the season while it was Jackson's first ever one in a Gator uniform. 

51-24:  The Gators are a perfect 5-0 at home this season which improves their record to 51-24 at The Swamp at The Don Nasser Family Plaza during Coach Paul Trevor's time on the sidelines. 

24-3: San Francisco State is 24-3 since the beginning of the 2015-16 in games they have scored 70 points or more including going 8-0 this season. 

RANKED NATIONALLY:  The Gators are in the top 15 in six statistical categories.  They are second in total steals, fourth in field goal percentage defense, fifth in steals/game and free throw percentage while they are 11th in scoring margin and 12th in total blocks.  AJ Kahlon is fourth in the nation in double-doubles, ninth in total rebounds, 11th in total blocks, 22nd in blocked shots/game and 27th in rebounds/game.  Coley Apsay is second in the nation in total rebounds and eighth in steals/game.  Nick Calcaterra and Chiefy Ugbaja are each tied for 28th in steals/game.

1/14:  San Francisco State is one of fourteen teams in the nation in NCAA Division II that are still undefeated. 

UP NEXT:  After their game this Sunday hosting Humboldt State, the Gators will return to the court on December 31 when they travel to Chico for a 3:30pm CCAA game with Chico State.
