KENTFIELD, Calif. – A sluggish opening half proved the be the difference as host Sonoma State held on for the win over the visiting San Francisco State women's basketball team, 66-46, Friday evening at the College of Marin.
The Gators (2-8/0-3 CCAA) had two players finish in double figures led by
Lauryn Catching's team-high 12 points. That ties a career-high in CCAA action. Catching shot 5-for-11 from the floor.
Imani Smith also finished in double-figures, she did a little bit of everything on the evening, she scored 10, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and had an assist.

Jasmine Black, and
Felicia Villarruel also chipped in six each. Eight players scored for the Gators on the evening, that's just the second time all-season that's happened. For the evening, the Gators shot 36.0 percent from the floor, going 18-for-50, from 3-point range SFSU struggled to find their range, connecting on 4-of-18.
In the opening quarter, the Gators offense came out sluggish. Sonoma State (5-2/1-1 CCAA) jumped out to an early 16-7 lead. The Gators were just 3-for-13 from the floor and 0-for-7 from distance.
The Seawolves continued to build on their lead in the quarter. SF State scored 16 in the period, but it was enough to close the gap as Sonoma State scored 23 to go into the locker room up 39-23.
Out of the break, the Gators offense once again was stuck in neutral. SF State scored just eight points in the quarter. The Seawolves responded going on a big run early to take a 20-point lead. They led by as much as 25 midway through the fourth quarter.
The Gators will return to action on Dec. 31 when they take on Chico State at Art Acker Gym, tip off for that game will be 5:30 p.m.

"I thought our energy and focus was good to start the game," said head coach
Dennis Cox. "But when we missed our first few shots I thought we lost our focus and they jumped out on us. We battled hard in the fourth quarter but it was too late to change the outcome."

In the final period, the Gators outscored the Seawolves 15-12. SF State got hot from distance connecting on 3-of-8 attempts.

Eight Gators scored at least one field goal on the evening. The only other time that has happened was against Saint Martin's when nine Gators scored at least one bucket.
