LA JOLLA, Calif.--- The SF State Gators lost their third straight ball game this afternoon, 3-2 in the series finale to the UC San Diego Tritons at Triton Ballpark. The loss spoiled an outstanding outing by Gator junior starter
Ryan Bohnet.

SF State (16-17, 9-13 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With two outs,
Ryan Burke was hit by a pitch. He advanced to third on a single by
Dalton Pizzuti and scored on an infield single by
Chad Thurston.
The Tritons tied the game in their half of the fourth inning as Christian Leung had a one out-double, advanced to third on a passed ball. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Steven Coe. The hosts took a 2-1 lead when JD Hearn and Jack Larsen led off the Triton sixth with back to back singles to put runners on the corners with no outs. Hearn then scored when Bohnet induced the next Triton to ground out to a 6-4-3 double play.
The game remained 2-1 Tritons until the top of the eighth inning.
Bryce Brooks had a lead-off walk, went to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Brooks scored on a run scoring single by Pizzuti which the junior catcher/designated hitter advanced to third on a two base error by the Tritons. Thurston was hit by a pitch to put Gators on the corners, but Tim Nelson induced the next batter to a ground out back to him on the mound to preserve the 2-2 tie.
UC San Diego (26-13, 16-11 CCAA) retook the lead in its half of the eighth. Hearn had a lead-off single, went to second on a sacrifice by Larsen. The Triton infielder advanced to third on a fly out to right center by Tyler Plantier. He scored what proved to be the game-winning run when Leung hit the first pitch he saw for a single through the right side to give UC San Diego a 3-2 lead.
Nelson retired the Gators in order in the top of the ninth as he picked up his second win of the series and improved to 7-1. The Triton reliever, pitched 1.1 innings as he gave up just one hit in facing six Gator batters.
Bohnet started for the first time in almost a month for the Gators, giving up 9 hits, two runs (one earned), striking out three and walking no one.
Peter Reyes (1-1) picked up the loss in relief, pitching one inning, giving up two hits and one run while striking out two.
The Tritons, who outhit the Gators for the first time this season, had their offensive attack led by Hearn who went 3-for-4 and was one of four batters to have multiple-hit days.
Pizzuti had two of the Gators' four hits on the day while driving in one of the Gators' two runs. Thurston and
Andrew Breen had the other two SF State hits.
SF State will return home this Wednesday, April 20 at 3pm, when the Gators host Cal State East Bay in a conference game at Maloney Field. This a make-up date from earlier in the season. The two teams have split their two earlier games with the Pioneers winning 7-5 on March 23 in Hayward and the Gators winning 14-3 on March 30 in SF State. They will finish off the four-game series on May 3 at 3pm in Hayward.
