SAN FRANCISCO-- Natasha Gosiaco connected on a ball from
Autumn Fox just three minutes into the second half to score what proved to be the game-winning goal in San Francisco State's 1-0 win over the Holy Names University Hawks this afternoon in a non-conference match in Oakland. The Gators have won their last five matches in a row to improve to 5-1-1.
Gosiaco's goal was second of the season and her second game-winner, with her other game-winning goal coming in the Gators' 2-0 win over Western State Colorado on September 10. Fox's assist was her team leading fourth of the season.
This was also on the Gators' fourth shutout of the season as
Christina Holguin recorded three saves in recording her fourth shutout in goal for the visitors.
San Francisco State dominated the match holding a 24-6 shot advantage, 11-3 shot on goal advantage and a 6-1 corner kick advantage.
Krystal Gouveia had a chance to give Holy Names (0-2-10 the 1-0 lead just 14 minutes into the half, but
Christina Holguin recorded one of her three saves on the day for the Gators. The guests came right down the pitch after that missed shot by the Hawks and
Jada Williams' attempt of giving the Gators the lead sailed wide left. She had another chance thirty seconds later be blocked by the Hawks' defense.
The guests had three chances in the next three chances sail wide left, high or be stopped by the Hawks' Vanessa Amaral. At the 23:03 mark,
Sydney Stout had her chance for the match's first goal be stopped by Amaral.
Late in the half, the Gators had another chance to take the lead but Amaral stopped
Hanna Ghamari's shot on goal attempt.
San Francisco State came out on the attack in the second half. 90 seconds into the new half, Gosiaco saw her attempt to give the Gators the lead be blocked and right after that Malisssa Shadle's attempt for her first goal of the season be stopped by Amaral.
Kimber Lohman continued the Gator attack, but shot sailed wide right. One minute after Lohman's shot sailed wide right, Gosiaco connected on what proved to be the game-winner on a ball from
Autumn Fox in the 49
th minute. The Gators dominated the rest of the match and several chances to double their lead including three by
Malissa Shadle,
Vanessa Koontz and
Sierra Sagasta that either sailed wide right, be blocked or stopped by the Hawks' defense. After the visitors took the lead, the Gators did not let the Hawks attempt a shot as they took the 1-0 non-conference match.
The Gators will continue their season long five-match road trip this Friday, September 23 at 7pm for a conference match with Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Field in Pomona, Calif. They will then travel to Cal State San Bernardino for a 2pm conference match with the Coyotes in San Bernardino.
