@SFState_MSOC's Rally Falls Short at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--  Even though the San Francisco State Gators held a 4-2 shot on goal advantage, the Cal State Bernardino Coyotes defeated their guests 1-0 this afternoon at CSUSB'S Premier Field in a CCAA match.  San Francisco State (5-3, 2-2 CCAA) also held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks, while the Coyotes held a slim 10-9 advantage in shot attempts.

Diego Casillas connected on a penalty kick for the Coyotes (5-1-1, 3-0-1 CCAA) in the 7th minute for the game-winner.

Playing in over 100-degree heat in San Bernardino, the Coyotes took advantage of a Gator foul in the seventh minute when Diego Casillas connected on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season.

The Gators, who were ranked 8th in the NSCAA/NCAA Division II West Region Poll this past week, came right down the pitch after the penalty kick but Ranier Plantinos shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Coyote defense.

San Francisco State had another chance to tie the match at 1-1 in the 27th minute, but Ashley Watson's shot was blocked by the Coyote defense.  Emmanuel Jimenez recorded one of his three saves on the day in the 39th minute, when he stopped Jorge Avila's attempt to double the hosts' lead.

The visitors had one more chance before the half ended to tie the match when Francisco Saucedo's shot sailed high over the goal to send the match into the second half with a 1-0 Coyote lead.

The Gators came out on the offensive early in the new half, but they could not get the ball into the back of the net.  In the 46th minute, Richard Leon's shot sailed high and then KJ Ahlo's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Coyotes' Jacob Huber.  Two minutes later, Andy Altamirano shot sailed high over the net.  Then James Aguirre's shot also sailed high over the net in the 53rd minute followed by Huber stopping Jesse Rodriguez's attempt to give the Gators the lead in the 57th minute.

Cal State San Bernardino, who was ranked 9th in this week's NSCAA/NCAA Division II West Region Poll, was held to just one shot attempt in the second half by the Gators' defense.

San Francisco State had one final attempt in the match to tie the match in the 78th minute, when Leon's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Coyotes' Huber as the hosts held on for the 1-0 conference victory.

The Gators will continue their season long four-match road trip next weekend with two more matches in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  They will face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, September 30 at 4:30pm in Carson, Calif.  San Francisco State will then end its road trip one week from today at 11:30am, when the Gators face No. 13 Cal State L.A. in Los Angeles.
