CARSON, Calif.—Playing in their third straight conference road match, the San Francisco State Gators fell 1-0 to the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros at Toro Stadium in Carson, Calif. Leonardo Nogueira's goal in the 32
nd minute off a ball from Angel Ayla proved to be the game-winner for the hosts.
The Gators (5-4, 2-3 CCAA) out-played the Toros in the second half holding a 9-8 advantage in shot attempts. They will end their season long four-match road trip this Sunday, October 2 in Los Angeles for a 11:30am starting conference match at No. 12 Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles defeated the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 3-1 earlier today at home.
MATCH NOTES
NAIL BITERS: The Gators are now 0-4 in 1-0 matches. All four of their losses have been by 1-0 scores including the last three in a row on the road.
BATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS: This afternoon's match was a battle of two regionally ranked teams according to the NSCAA/NCAA Division II West Region Poll. The Toros were 4th and the Gators 9th.
LEON KEEPS ON TICKING:
Richard Leon recorded five of the Gators' 12 shot attempts including one of their shot on goal attempts. The freshman forward leads the team with his 16 shot attempts for the season. He is tied with
Ranier Plantinos each with three goals and has a team high two game-winning goals.
GATOR "D": San Franicsco State's defense is allowing just 0.66 goals a match with
Emmanuel Jimenez leading the Gators' defense. He has recorded a 0.67 goals against average with 21 saves in goal for the Gators.
