SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball played tough with the top team in the conference, but ultimately, visiting UC San Diego came away with the 65-55 win on Friday night at The Swamp.
The Gators (2-13/0-8 CCAA) played their most physical game of the year, outrebounding UC San Diego (12-3/8-1 CCAA) 34-33. A big reason from that was the strong play from

Imani Smith finished with nine points on the evening.
On the offensive side, the Gators grabbed 13 rebounds that led to 15 second chance points. Ultimately, it was the play in the paint that proved to be the difference as the Tritons outscored the Gators 26-8 in the key.
Lauryn Catching led the Gators with 13 points, on 5-of-13 shooting. Offensively, SF State shot well from the floor, shooting 38.2 percent. From long range, the Gators were 9-for-25. The Gators troubles were at the charity stripe this evening, where they were just 4-for-11.
GAME NOTES
Coaches Quotes
"I thought our kids fought hard tonight," said head coach
Dennis Cox. "We hit a little scoring drought scoring late in the game. But early in the second half when they pushed the lead out to 12, we answered with a run of our own. I though the kids really competed tonight, it is something I think we can build on."
Second Half Adjustments
Going into the intermission the Gators were shooting 34.4 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from beyond the arc. After the break, the Gators caught fire, shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from 3-point range.
