SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball team went into the locker room up 32-15 and were feeling it from long range. After the break, it was all Humboldt State as the Jacks rallied back from 12 down in the third quarter to win 52-48 Tuesday evening at The Swamp.
SFSU (2-10/0-5 CCAA) opened the game red-hot from beyond the arc, going 6-for-10 from 3-point range.
Kaitlin DaDalt was a big reason for that, going 3-for-4 in the first quarter from long range, and was a large part of the Gators 10-0 run to open the contest. She led the Gators with 12 first half points.
After the intermission it was all Humboldt State (3-11/2-5 CCAA) who rode a huge fourth quarter from Lynnzy Troxell, who scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Jacks shot 45.8 percent from the floor for the game, and 55.6 percent in the second half. Twenty of the Jacks 30 second half points, came inside the key.
The Gators finished the night shooting a very respectable 43.9 percent from the field, going 18-for-41 from the floor. In the second half however, the Gators were held largely in check, scoring just 16 points, 13 coming from
Lauryn Catching.
Catching finished with a game-high 19 points, going 7-for-15 from the floor and 1-for-4 from 3-point range. She also had three rebounds and two steals.
Imani Smith scored six points for the Gators, she also had three rebounds and two assists.
Felicia Villarruel scored six points with four assists.
Kayla Watterson and
Donae Moguel both grabbed a team-leading four rebounds.
The Gators return to action on Thursday when they travel to Los Angeles to take on Cal State L.A. at the Eagles Nest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
GAME NOTES
Catching And DaDalt Strike Again
The Gators 1-2 combination of
Lauryn Catching and
Kaitlin DaDalt struck again Tuesday evening. The pair lead the Gators averaging 11.0 and 10.3 points per game respectively and have finished in double figures two-straight games. DaDalt now has seven games this year with 10 or more points, while Catching has six.
Leading For Most Of The Way
The Gators opened the game on a 10-0 run, and led by as much as 17 points at one point. SFSU led the game for a total of 37 minutes and three seconds. The Gators 92.6 percentage with the lead is the largest of the season.
Season High From 3-Point Range
The Gators 42.9 percent field goal percentage from 3-point range was a season-high for SF State this season. They finished the night going 6-for-14. Their previous high came against Holy Names on Nov. 15 when they went 6-for-16 from long range.
