@SFState_WBB Gets Big Night From Moguel But Falls To Golden Eagles

LOS ANGELES – Senior center Donae Moguel had a monster night recording her first career double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. However, a strong second and third quarter by host Cal State L.A. was too much for San Francisco State as the Gators fell 68-57 Thursday evening at the Eagles Nest.

SFSU (2-11/0-6 CCAA) shot 36.2 percent from the field, going 21-for-58 on the evening.  Moguel provided most of the offensive firepower, as she was the only Gator in double figures.  She finished the day going 9-for-11 from the floor, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.  She also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Cal State L.A. (8-7/5-2 CCAA) led from the start of tonight's game and never trailed.  The Golden Eagles shot 43.1 percent from the field going 25-for-58, a bulk of their offense came in the paint where they scored 30 of their 68 points.  Leading CSULA was guard Da'Jah Jackson, who scored 24 points.

Sophomore guard Lauryn Catching was a rebound and a bucket shy of a double-double.  After a quiet first half, she finished with eight points and nine rebounds.  The nine rebounds are a career-high for Catching.

GAME NOTES

More On Moguel's Big Night
Donae Moguel's first double-double at SF State is the Gator's first double-double of the year.  The 25 points is also a season-high for a Gator and a career-high for the senior.

Bench Coming Up Big
The Gators bench came up big tonight, of the Gators 57 points 36 came from the bench.  The 36 bench points is the second most scored by the Gators this season.  On Nov. 11 at Western Oregon, SF State's bench combined to score 37 points.

Crashing The Glass
For just the third time this season, the Gators outrebounded their opponent.  SF State finished with 41 rebounds on the evening, while limiting Cal State L.A. to just 27.  The plus-14 margin in the rebounds was the highest all year for the Gators.  Moguel led SF State with 13 rebounds, however Catching chipped in a career-high nine boards.  Kaitlin DaDalt also grabbed seven.  Eight Gators recorded at least one rebound this evening.

Next Up
The Gators return to action on Saturday evening when they return north, taking on Stanislaus State at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.  Tip-off is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start time.
