TURLOCK, Calif. – A sluggish third quarter proved to be the difference as the San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to host Stanislaus State 58-45 at Fitzpatrick Arena on Saturday night.
The Gators (2-12/0-6 CCAA) scored a jumper with 29 seconds left in the second quarter to take a 25-19 lead. SFSU did not light up the scoreboard again until
Donae Moguel hit a free throw with 3:05 in the third quarter. During that stretch Stanislaus State (7-9/5-2 CCAA) went on a 15-0 run to take the lead and never look back.
Kaitlin DaDalt led the Gators scoring 12 points, going 5-for-11 from the field. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and two blocks.
Lauryn Catching was second on the team with nine points. Moguel scored eight points. Sophomore center
Kayla Watterson grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, the 13 boards are a new career-high.
As a team, SF State shot 25.8 percent from the field, going 16-for-62 from the floor. The Warriors were led by Cassidy Sanders-Curry who scored a game-high 23 points. She also grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double.
Stanislaus State started the game cold from the floor. After the first quarter, the Gators defense held the Warriors 3-for-23 from the field. After that, Stanislaus State scored a bulk of their offense inside the key, where they tallied 34 of their 58 points.
The Gators return to action next Friday when they host UC San Diego at The Swamp. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
