LOS ANGELES — The San Francisco State women's soccer team split its road trip with a 1-0 at Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday.
The Gators (9-4-1/4-3-1 CCAA) outshot the second-place Golden Eagles (7-2-3/5-1-2 CCAA) 17-16 but a goal in the 18th minute was the difference. Paulina Chaidez scored her ninth goal of the season on the assist by Zarette Munoz-Aguilar.
SF State had several chances in the first half early but
Vanessa Penuna's shot in the fifth minute hit off the crossbar.
Ally King's shot in the 24th minute was blocked,
Madison Messier's shot in the 38th minute was saved, and
Bianca Lowe's shot at the end of the half was blocked.
Lowe and Messier had shots saved in the first five minutes of the second half, and
Sierra Sagasta had her shot in the 68th minute saved as well.
Tami Kwong had a pair of shots saved and the Gators' final shot attempt, by
Janessa Staab in the 86th minute, sailed high.
"We struggled with the final pass today. We missed some good chances," said San Francisco State Head Coach
Tracy Hamm. "The warm weather affected us, but we need to have more grit than that. We responded better in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net."
Senior
Christina Holguin made six saves in the loss.
The Gators return home on Friday, Oct. 20 at noon and the first 250 students in attendance at that day's doubleheader will receive a free SF State soccer scarf. Live video and stats will be available at
