AZUSA, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader, 4-0 and 9-3 in seven innings, at Azusa Pacific on Thursday.
In game two,
Sam Schmidt provided the offense for SF State (2-4) with all three of the Gators' runs batted in. The Cougars took an early 3-0 lead but Schmidt cut the lead to 3-2 in the third with a single to center that plated
Jackson Kritsch and
TJ Conroy. Azusa Pacific answered with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning and tacked on two more runs in the sixth. The Gators strung together four consecutive hits in the fifth inning and plated another run but three consecutive strikeouts ended the rally. Starter
Dillon Houser (0-1) tossed two innings and was charged with his first loss of the season.
SF State was shutout in game one. Michael Fairchild (2-0) held the Gators to two hits. Schmidt's single in the top of the sixth broke up Fairchild's no-hitter bid and
Trevor Greenley added a hit in the ninth. Starter
Ryan Bohnet (1-1) incurred his first loss. He struck out six and allowed three earned runs on six hits in five innings of work. The Cougars touched him for a run in the fourth and chased him with back-to-back home runs to start the sixth.
The series, originally scheduled for home, was moved to Southern California after heavy rains have doused the Bay Area. Weather permitting, the series will continue on Friday with a single game at 2 p.m. However, Friday and Saturday are now calling for rain across the state. Follow the Gators on Twitter at
