SAN FRANCISCO — The No. 19 San Francisco State men's basketball team rolled past Cal State LA, 93-67, on Tuesday night in the first round of the CCAA Championships.
Ten days removed from beating the Golden Eagles by 20 points in the regular season, the Gators poured it on again on Tuesday night with a 26-point victory in front of a capacity crowd. The Gators (24-4) dominated the Golden Eagles (14-16) in every statistical category of the fast-paced matchup. SF State shot 42.9 percent (38-of-69) while holding Cal State LA to 33.3 percent (26-of-60) and won the rebounding battle 40-26, which helped the Gators rack up 17 second-chance points. The Gators distributed the ball extremely well and dished out 20 assists. SF State outscored the Golden Eagles 50-24 in the paint and had 19 fast break points.
The Gators trailed early but answered with six consecutive points and took the lead on a
Warren Jackson fastbreak layup. Another Jackson layup, then a Jackson three-pointer made it 22-18 with 10 minutes to go and the Gators never trailed again. From there,
Ryne Williams had a tip-in and
Derrick Brown nailed a three-pointer to make it a nine-point ballgame. By the half, the lead stood at 11.
Roderick Evans-Taylor hit a three that cut the lead to seven but the Gators answered with another run.
Jash Kahlon hit back-to-back buckets, Jackson hit a fast-break three, and
Coley Apsay laid one in to make it a 17-point game with 12:51 to go. From there, the lead grew to as large as 29.
With the win, the Gators finish with a 13-1 record at home in the Swamp at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
AJ Kahlon scored a team-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting reeled in a team-high eight rebounds. Jackson added 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with four threes. He added four rebounds and dished out five assists. Apsay scored 13 points with six rebounds and five assists. The Gators emptied their bench and had 10 players score.
Cal State LA was led by Hammonds' 24 points. Jordan Wilson added 18 points in the loss.

The Gators head now head to the Sports Center in San Marcos, California for the next round of the 2017 CCAA Men's Basketball Championships. SF State will face the No. 3 seed, Sonoma State, on Friday, March 3 in the semfinal matchup. The Seawolves topped Cal Poly Pomona 63-56.
