SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State women's basketball team rallied back from 18 down in a furious second half rally. Unfortunately, the rally fell short as visiting Stanislaus State came away with a 64-57 win on Friday night on Spirit Night III.
Playing in front of a raucous home crowd, SF State (2-18/0-13 CCAA) had three players finish in double figures and was led by senior center
Donae Moguel who recorded her fourth double-double of the year, scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
Joining Moguel in double figures was
Kaitlin DaDalt who scored 15 points, shooting an impressive 6-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-7 from 3-point range.
Lauryn Catching added 10 points on the evening, while dishing out three assists and grabbing two steals.
With 7:17 left in the third quarter, the Gators found themselves down 18, 44-26. But over the next eight minutes, SF State went on a 20-5 run, going 8-for-11 from the floor. Moguel and DaDalt powered the Gators run, scoring seven each. Defensively, SF State choked off the Warriors, holding them to 2-for-10 from the field during the stretch.
Stanislaus State (11-12/9-5 CCAA) went on a 9-4 run over the final four minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game on ice. The Warriors were led by Cassidy Sanders-Curry's team-high 15 points. The Warriors shot 43.1 percent from the field in the game, but started red-hot shooting 56.0 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Gators return to action tomorrow evening when they host Chico State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at The Swamp.
GAME NOTES
Double-Double Donae
For the fourth time this season, and second game in a row, senior
Donae Moguel recorded a double-double. The native of Los Angeles finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds. It marks the seventh time in the last eight games that she's grabbed eight or more rebounds.
DaDalt Goes For Double Figures
Junior forward
Kaitlin DaDalt finished in double figures for the 14
th time this season. That leads the team. She has scored 10 or more in seven-straight contests, dating back to January 7 at Stanislaus State.
Three Over 10
The Gators had three players finish in double figures tonight. The last time SF State had three players score 10 or more was against Cal State East Bay on Dec. 3.
