CARSON, Calif. – The offense was in short supply for the San Francisco State softball team on Friday. The Gators were held to three runs on 10 hits, as they fell to host Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-3 in game one and 4-0 in the finale.
SF State (12-20/11-17 CCAA) fell behind early in both contests and could not complete the comeback. In the opener, after trailing 1-0 early, the Gators pulled ahead 2-1 following a two-run home run by
Kasie Trezona. Her fourth home run of the season.
Unfortunately, the Toros (5-28/4-24 CCAA) took the lead back, scoring five runs in the top of the fifth and took a commanding 6-2 lead. The Gators added a run in the home half of the inning on an RBI single by
Aryn Guzman, but the three runs would it for SF State.
Lindsey Cassidy (4-9) was saddled with the loss, going 4.1 innings. She allowed four hits, five runs, three earned and walked seven.
In the nightcap the Gators offense fell flat. SF State was held to five hits and no runs over seven innings.
Gabby Reta recorded three of the Gator's five hits, as she went the 3-for-4 in the series finale.
SF State threatened multiple times in the contest. Even loading the bases in the sixth, and putting two in scoring position in the seventh. But in both cases SF State came away empty.
Clark (5-11) took the loss. She threw seven innings, allowing eight hits, four runs, all earned, with four walks and two strike outs.
The Gators will return to action next Friday when they travel to Turlock, Calif., to participate in the annual Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State. The Gators will open the tournament against Concordia (Ore.) at 4:30 p.m.
