TURLOCK, Calif. – The San Francisco State softball team earned a day one split to begin the annual Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State.  The Gators rallied from six down to defeat Concordia (Ore.) 10-6, before falling to Western Washington 3-1.

For SF State (13-21) both games featured very different scripts.  In the opener against the Cavaliers (12-19) the Gators rallied back from six down, scoring 10 runs on 14 hits, the bulk of their scoring coming on two big innings.  In the nightcap against the Vikings (14-11) the Gators offense was held in check, just one run on six hits.

In the tournament opener,
Lindsey Cassidy took the ball for the Gators to start the game against the Cavaliers.  Concordia roughed up the junior, scoring six runs in the first three innings.

Megan Clark (6-12) entered the game for Cassidy midway through the third and pitched the 4.2 innings, scattering four hits to earn the win.

SF State got on the board in the top of the fourth inning.  Maddison Collins drove in three of her five runs against Concordia cutting the Cavaliers lead in half.

The Gators took the lead in the fifth when they scored six runs on seven hits.
Gabby Reta tallied a two-run single to bring the Gators within one run.  Clark helped her own cause with an RBI single that tied the game at 6-6 before
Kasie Trezona gave the Gators the lead for good.  SF State added a run in the seventh for good measure.

In the nightcap against Western Washington, Clark once against toed the rubber for the Gators.  Clark was strong, going the distance, scattering nine hits, three runs with four strike outs.

Unfortunately, WWU starter Anna Kasner was just a little bit better.  Holding the Gators offense quiet for one run on six hits over seven complete, while striking out six.

That Gators scored their lone run of the game on a double steal by Clark and Trezona in the top of the second that briefly tied the game at 1-1.  WWU would score the winning run in the top of the second and added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

At the plate, the Gators were led by
Alexis Mattos who finished the game going 2-for-3.

The Gators will return to action tomorrow at 12:30 when they take on Montana State-Billings to begin day two of the Tournament of Champions.
