SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team exploded for a season-high 22 hits and 14 runs in a 14-8 victory at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday. The Gators dropped game two of the doubleheader 5-3.
All nine SF State (5-20/3-14 CCAA) starters tallied at least one hit in game one. The first three Gators batters doubled and the first six recorded a hit en route to an early 3-0 lead. SF State opened the game up in the fourth with a five-run inning. Four consecutive singles led to two more runs, then a
Jacob Lopez double brought in two more.
Myles Franklin capped off the scoring with a sac fly that plated Lopez.
Connor Fidone's RBI single in the sixth extended the lead to 9-0. The Cougars (13-14/3-12 CCAA) finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth with three runs on Tyler Place's two-run homer and a Nico Maida sacrifice fly.
Zac Neumann manufactured a run in the seventh. He singled, advanced on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on cleanup batter
Jordan Abernathy's RBI single through the left side. The Cougars plated a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the two teams traded four-run eighth innings.
