BB | Gators take game one of cross-bay series

HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team took the first game of the four-game series at Cal State East Bay on Friday, 7-0.

Winners of three of their last five games, the Gators took control early. Jacob Lopez led the game off with a walk, advanced on Bryce Brooks' single, and scored on Cole Lang's sacrifice fly. Brooks scored on Jordan Abernathy's RBI double to left center and Jack Harris's two-run homer to left center capped off the four-run first-inning rally. Harris' fifth homer in his last seven games chased Pioneers starter Joey Portugal, who recorded just one out. He was charged with four runs on three hits and a walk.

Lang added another RBI in the second with a bases-loaded fielder's choice. After Zac Neumann walked and stole second, Lopez drove a 1-1 pitch to left field to make it a 7-0 game in the fourth.

Matthew Hernandez was perfect through the first four innings en route to his third win of the season. The senior tallied a pair of strikeouts in seven and a third innings of work and held the Pioneers to just three hits and two walks. Cy Vojak finished things off with one and two third innings of one-hit ball.
