HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team guaranteed at least a series split with Cal State East Bay with a split on Saturday. The Gators dropped game one 7-4 and took the seven-inning nightcap 5-1.
A five-run inning lifted the Gators to victory in game two. SF State tallied six singles in the frame and batted around.
Mike Phelan's single began the scoring.
Zac Neumann's single made it 3-0,
Jacob Lopez followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0, and
Jackson Kritsch's sacrifice fly chased starter Pioneers starter Joel Lamont (4-4) just an inning and twos thirds into the game. Meanwhile, for the Gators,
Dillon Houser (2-6) went six and a third innings strong and gave up a run in the fifth. He allowed five hits and struck out four.
Brent Montgomery needed just six pitches to record the final two outs.
Noeh Martinez's RBI single in the second inning gave the Gators an early 1-0 lead in game one. However, SF State starter
Ryan Bohnet (2-7) surrendered four runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth. In the fifth, the first four Gators batters reached base, capped by RBI doubles from Neumann and Lopez. That pulled the Gators to within a run but the bullpen allowed two more runs, one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh.
