LOS ANGELES — The San Francisco State baseball team was unable to protect leads in both games on Saturday at Cal State LA. The Gators fell 10-6 and 10-4 in the CCAA doubleheader.
Trailing 2-0 in game one,
Jordan Abernathy's first home run of the day got the Gators (9-25/5-18 CCAA) on the board in the second inning.
Bryce Brooks led off the third with a walk and, after a sacrifice bunt, came around to score on
Jacob Lopez's RBI single to tie the game 2-2.
Jackson Kritsch gave the Gators the lead with his double to right center. The Gators added on in the fourth. After
Zac Neumann drew a two-out walk to load the bases, Lopez went back up the middle to drive in Brooks and
Jack Harris.
Game one starter
Andrew Najeeb-Brush (2-4) allowed a two-run home running in the first and two more runs in the fifth and was chased by a one-out RBI single.
Cy Vojak allowed one more run, charged to Najeeb-Brush, before getting out of the inning. The SF State bullpen allowed four more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. The Gators got one run back in the seventh on
Cole Lang's infield single.
Game two starter
Ryan Bohnet (1-6) gave up six runs, five earned, in five and two thirds inning of work. The bullpen allowed four more runs, though
Brett Elgin pitched a perfect eighth inning.
The Golden Eagles (20-13/13-10 CCAA) took an early 1-0 lead but SF State answered with a three-run third.
Chris Nicholson's two-out single plated Lopez and Abernathy's third homer of the season gave the Gators a 3-1 lead. However, Sean Watkins' two-run double down the left field line in the bottom half of the inning tied the game at 3-3.
With runners on the corners, Nicholson gave the Gators the lead back in the fourth with an infield single. Angel Sanchez's two-out single in the bottom of the fourth knotted the game yet again. In the sixth, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good with a four-run rally, and added two more runs in the seventh.
