TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw on Saturday at Stanislaus State.
SF State's
Richard Leon was taken down in the box in the 20th minute but the Gators (5-1-1/0-1-1 CCAA)were unable to convert on a golden opportunity. Stanislaus State (2-3-3/0-2-2 CCAA) goalkeeper Patrick Colombana made a diving save on the sophomore's penalty kick. A Warriors counter immediately after the PK nearly resulted in a goal the other direction but good defense on the left side by Sam Gebrimiche prevented a clean shot and
Aydan Bowers backed Gebrimiche and goalkeeper
Kyle Harmina, clearing the ball off of the goal line.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first half with one corner kick apiece but the Warriors attempted eight in the second half compared to the Gators' four. SF State was outshot 22-14 but placed more shots on goal, 6-5.
SF State goalkeeper
Kyle Harmina posted his fourth shutout of the season with six saves.
"We had a hard-fought battle today. Both teams had clear-cut chances throughout the match," said SF State Head Coach
Javier Ayala-Hil. "We put in the work and we got a point out of it for this weekend. We look forward to playing our first two conference matches at home this weekend."
The Gators return home on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 12:30 p.m. versus Cal State East Bay, and host Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 11:30 a.m. Live video and stats will be available at
