SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw on Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Golden Gators (6-5-2/4-3-2 CCAA) picked up a point in the CCAA standings and moved into a tie for fourth place with Cal State LA with 14 points. Cal State Monterey Bay (6-5-2/3-4-1 CCAA) moves into sole possession of seventh place with 10 points.
The Gators were outshot 20-8 in the contest including 7-0 in the first half.
Both teams had their opportunities in the second half. Summer Langsam's shot in the 48th minute banged off the post and Madison Messier's follow was saved. The Otters took the next three attempts but goalkeeper Nicki Rucki was there for all three stops. The Gators answered with the next three shots. Madision Messier's shot in the 69th minute went high and Karla Ramos' shot in the 70th minute was saved. Rucki kept the Otters scoreless in regulation with a save in the 88th minute.
The Gators defense worked hard to keep the Otters off the board. Jasmine Safarians attempted a pair of shots in the first overtime period, one went wide and one was saved. In the 102nd minute, Melissa Wilson's shot was saved and with just over a minute to go in double overtime Rucki made her career-high 11th save versus Sophia Zertuche. Madison Aguirre fired a shot off the inside of the post that would have ended the match five seconds early but the ball instead bounced back forward and away from the goal.
