HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team broke out for a trio of goals in a 3-1 victory at Cal State East Bay on Sunday.
Just two points separate the top four teams in the CCAA and six points separate the top six teams, though the fourth-place Gators' (7-5-2/5-3-2 CCAA) bye week will fall during the final week of the CCAA schedule. The loss all but eliminated Cal State East Bay (6-6-2/1-5-2 CCAA) from postseason contention.
The Pioneers fired off four shots before the Gators' first attempt, a
Monique Ponce shot in the 20th minute that went wide. After 40 minutes of scoreless action, the Gators grabbed the advantage in the 41st minute on redshirt freshman
Summer Langsam's first career goal off of the assist from freshman
Emily Kaleal.
Chace Miguel connected with Savannah Schultz in the 54th minute to tie the game at 1-1 but the Gators answered in the 65th minute on junior defender Kelsie Bozart's first goal of the season. Kaleal netted an insurance goal, her first career goal, in the 74th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Rucki recorded three saves to pick up her seventh win of the season.
The Gators have just two CCAA contests remaining. San Francisco State hosts Stanislaus State on Friday, October 19 at 3 p.m. and first-place Chico State on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. Wins in both of those contests can guarantee the Gators a place in the CCAA Championships. Live stats and video will be available at
