SAN FRANCISCO — An overtime goal by Jonathan Orozco lifted the San Francisco State men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Chico State on Sunday at Cox Stadium. The 93rd minute goal will extend Golden Gators' season even further as the team clinched a second postseason berth in as many seasons.
Prior to the match, the Gators honored their 10 seniors: Aydan Bowers, Brandon Brunac, CJ Camacho, Brandt Dixon, Maximiliano Maciel, Uzoma Onuoma, Nolan Parker, Tariq Pulskamp, Carlos Trujeque leal, and Jorden Wusstig.
Both teams attempted two shots each in the first half but neither team placed a shot on frame.
The first shot on goal of the match came in the 53' for Chico State (10-4-1/7-3-0 CCAA). Cooper Renteria's shot from 35 yards went straight into the arms of goalkeeper Peter Swinkels. The Gators (10-3-3/7-3-2 CCAA) had an opportunity in the 58th minute but Damion Lewis leapt to save Moses Gutierrez' shot from inside the box. The Wildcats countered a minute later when Cooper Renteria's shot was batted down by Swinkels. The ball rolled away in front of an open net but Jeremiah Eguiie rushed the shot wide right. The Gators got deep in the box in the 65th minute but Gutierrez's shot deflected off of a teammate. The 21st foul of the contest resulted in a free kick for the Gators in the 78th minute but Wusstig's shot was saved. Fabian Roman dribbled through the Gators defense in the 86th minute but tried to go far post past Swinkels but instead went wide left with it, and an Egujie shot in the 87th was saved by Swinkels.
Swinkels made his five save in the 92nd minute. The sophomore goalkeeper picked up the win for his 10th shutout of the season, which ranks among the Top 10 in the nation. He currently leads all of NCAA Division II with an .892 save percentage.
Jonathan Orozco's second goal of the season came in the 93rd minute off of a perfectly passed ball in front of the goal from Gutierrez. The play developed when Trujeque leal played the ball down the left side, then crossed the ball to Gutierrez.
The Gators have secured a place in the CCAA Championships but have a bye week so will have to wait for the rest of the league to see how the postseason bracket shakes out. Updates will be available at
