WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Jhaina Stephens of the San Francisco State women's basketball team was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week, the conference announced this morning.
Stephens notched her third double-double of the year after scoring a season-high 23 points, which is a third of SF State's total points, and tied a career best with 17 rebounds. The senior also went 9-of-12 from the free throw line, which are the most free throws made by a Gator since 2013, and notched a season-high four steals as the Gators defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 69-57. The forward currently ranks eighth in the CCAA with 13.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, and is also fourth with a 50 percent field goal mark.
Stephens becomes the first Player of the Week honoree from SF State since Katie Batlin in 2014. She and the rest of the Gators are back in action on January 3 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and look to extend their three-game win streak.
