SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team split Saturday's CCAA doubleheader with Stanislaus State. The Gators took game one 4-3 and dropped the nightcap 4-2.
In game one, Stan State (7-4/3-2 CCAA) got on the board first thanks to a successful steal of home plate by Braeden Oki. SF State (3-9/3-4 CCAA) stormed back quickly in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run bottom of the first.
Connor Fidone led off with a four-pitch walk, then moved into scoring position on
Brady Dorn's single to left.
Jackson Kritsch loaded the bases with a bunt single and, three batters later,
Trevor Rogers singled home a pair with two outs.
Jason Hare, who was pressed into duty after starting backstop
Johnny Juarez left injured as a result of a collision at the plate, made it a three-run lead with his single through the left side.
Stanislaus State climbed back into the game thanks to a pair of unearned runs. The Warriors shaved off a run in the fifth and tied the game in the sixth on Vicenzo Margiotta's sacrifice fly. Hare answered with his second RBI of the day, a sacrifice fly that brought Kristsch home.
Dillon Houser (1-2) picked up the win in game one for the Gators. He struck out five in six innings of work and did not allow an earned run.
Cameron Crone worked the remainder and picked up his second save of the season with three innings of one-hit baseball. Warriors starter Tyler Murphy (1-1) took the loss.
In game two, SF State carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning of game two. Stan State scored again in the first inning on a sacrifice fly but the Gators tied the game in the third on
Harley Lopez's sac fly. In the fourth inning, the Gators grabbed the lead when Fidone scored on a wild pitch.
Joshua Romero pitched a perfect sixth inning but couldn't hold the lead in the seventh.
Jack Higgins settled for the no-decision. He scattered five hits and did not allow an earned run. Kevin Hahn (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Warriors and Chase Wheatcroft fanned two in a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
