SB | Gators Drop Pair to Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO – The struggles continued for the San Francisco State softball team on Friday as they dropped a pair to visiting Stanislaus State, 4-3 and 3-1 (8).

The Warriors plated two in the top of the third for the first runs of the game. Aliyah Garvin led off with a double and came around on Ruby Quiralte's sacrifice fly to left. With two outs, Alanah Laupua-Vanisi walked and made it 2-0 on Katelyn McDonald's double to center field.

Stanislaus State doubled its lead in the fifth to make it 4-0, however the Gators got on the board in the bottom half. With one down, Madison Collins singled up the middle and Michelle Castro followed reaching on an error. Both runners advanced to give SF State players on second and third. Andrea Hilden singled to the third baseman, scoring Collins for the first run. Hayley Nunes followed with a bunt single to plate Castro, making it 4-2. Two batters later, Katie Rohrer ripped a single to right field to plate Hildan and make it a one run game.

Karla Soto came in to pitch the sixth and retired the Warriors in order. SF State put runners on in the sixth and seventh looking for that tying run, however the visitor's Kristin Borst shut the door for the save and the win.

Soto started game two of the day and got a textbook 6-4-3 double play in the second and struck out Karmyn Rivera looking to end the frame.

Andrea Hildan made a fantastic diving catch to her right to rob Guzman of a base hit to start the third inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Castro whacked a double to left with two outs. She next stole third, and scored on Hildan's single to left to give SF State a 1-0 lead.

Stanislaus State tied things up 1-1 in the fifth on Deja Guzman's RBI double to left that scored pinch runner Kaitlyn Doyle.

The pitcher's dual continued with Soto allowing just four hits through six with a pair of strikeouts and Megan Stacy logging six strikeouts and six hits.

Desiree Gonzalez's two-run double down the left-field line put the Warriors up 3-1 in the top of the eighth for the doubleheader sweep.

Nunes went 3-for-4 in game two, and accumulated five hits overall on the day.
