BB | Gators Top CSUSB To Take Third Consecutive Series

SAN BERNARDINO — The San Francisco State baseball team won its third consecutive series on Sunday with a 13-3 win over Cal State Bernardino.

Shortstop Jackson Kritsch set the tone for the game with a leadoff homer. He began the third with a leadoff walk and scored on Chris Smutny's double down the left field line, then Harley Lopez crushed his third homer of the series to make it 3-0. The first seven Gators (17-21/16-16 CCAA) who came up to the plate in the fourth inning reached safely, resulting in a six-run inning and a 10-0 lead. Kritsch added an RBI single in the seventh and Damon DeVirgilio doubled home a pair in the ninth.

The Coyotes (11-27/11-22 CCAA) offense came from an Isaiah Cameron pinch-hit home run in the sixth and an Anthony Ortega two-run home run in the eighth.

Gators starter Matthew Hernandez (3-4) faced three over the minimum and struck out six over seven innings of work. He scattered four hits and allowed one run. The senior now sports a 2.48 ERA, fourth lowest among CCAA starters. He now has 65 strikeouts, which moves him into the Top 10 by an SF State pitcher in a single season.

All told, the Gators scored 55 runs in the series and cranked seven home runs in the series. For the series, Lopez hit .500 (11-for-22) with three home runs, nine RBIs, seven runs scored, and a walk.
