San Francisco - The San Francisco State volleyball team continued its hot start to 2018 on Saturday, sweeping Holy Names 25-22, 25-15, 25-13 at The Swamp. The win is SF State's fifth win all-time over the Hawks, and all contests have resulted in a 3-0 decision.
It is the first time since 2012 the Golden Gators have started out the year a perfect 3-0.
- The Golden Gators (3-0) have yet to drop a set this season in their third-straight victory, and have held opponents to a sub-.150 hitting mark in every contest thus far.
- Drew Morris posted her second-straight double-double with ten kills and 13 digs.
- Olivia Tabron notched a .588 attack percentage, which is the ninth-best in program history. She poured in 11 kills and a pair of block assists.
- Jessica Haynie recorded 12 kills and added three digs and three service aces. Vanessa Ditz added 19 digs, and Payton Jensen notched 39 assists.
Haynie began the contest with a service ace to start the scoring. Morris gave the hosts a 10-7 advantage on a kill off a dish from Jensen. The Hawks would later tie things up at 15-all on three-straight kills before Haynie put SF State back up. A Big block by Bailey Johnson and Tabron put the Golden Gators up 20-19 and SF State would go on a 5-2 run to fend off Holy Names in the first frame for the win.
An 8-2 run to start the second promoted a Holy Names timeout, and the Gators added two more to push the lead to eight. Leading 13-5, the Hawks committed a service error to start a 5-0 Golden Gator run which ended with back-to-back Tabron kills. Haynie added another point, and the set ended on a Hawk service error as SF State rolled to a 25-15 set-two victory.
Marlena Billings produced her first of three kills to make it a 3-1 SF State advantage. The victors would take a 8-7 lead after some Golden Gator miscues, however Haynie and Tabron accounted for the next five-straight kills to make it a 12-8 contest. Another streak, this time of four-straight points capped off by a pair of service aces from Haynie, gave SF State a 16-9 lead, forcing another Hawk timeout. SF State continued to roll en route to the sweep, notching seven-straight to go up 24-11 which was highlighted by consecutive Kaitlyn Clemann kills off assists from Jensen.
