SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The San Francisco State volleyball team dropped it's first conference match of the season on Saturday, falling to host Cal State San Marcos in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-19

The Cougars came out to a 5-0 lead in the early going, but the Golden Gators bounced back with an 8-2 run to take the lead. Morris started the rally with a kill, and Brenna Dougherty added a service ace. Maura Donovan followed suit with back-to-back aces and Johnson notched her first kill of the night for the one-point lead. San Marcos bounced back to go up 21-10 and continued to roll with the 25-13 set one win.Â
Payton Jensen opened up the Golden Gator scoring in the second with a kill, and a pair of Cougar attack errors coupled with Tabron's big swing put the Purple and Gold up 4-1. The Cougars streaked again to go up 12-6, with kills by Lauren Lee and Kassy Doering.Williams dropped in a kill in the back of the court that narrowed the deficit to 14-9, however San Marcos took a ten-point lead and ended the set with a kill by Ashley Pedersen for the 25-15 win.
The Cougars went up 6-2 before a Haynie swing off an assist by Jensen cut it to three. SF Start battled back against the mighty Cougar offense that hit .268 in the frame. Down by ten, Williams got another kill which sparked a 4-1 run. The Gators would rally off three-straight points as San Marcos had match point, which featured another Haynie kill and an ace by Johnson, but the Cougars got the deciding point on a swing by Olivia Aguilar to seal the win.
