A 6-0 run featuring kills by Barr and Morris as well as a pair of Jensen aces made it a 12-7 lead. Swings by Johnson, Jensen and Haynie continued the streak as the Purple and Gold now lead 18-10, and Johnson widened it to 21-12 to the near sideline as SF State quickly encroached on the early match lead. Back-to-back aces by Fong gave the visitors set point and Barr put it away off an assist from Jensen for the 25-13 win. SF State would hit a stellar .378 in the first set with four aces and just one error.
The hosts bounced back in the second as they rattled off five straight for the one-point lead. Another run, this time of eight points, put them up 16-11 before a Barr swing ended the streak. Consecutive Lumberjack errors would cut it to four, 23-19, but a kill by Lenox Loving leveled the match.
The third frame featured multiple lead changes as both sides looked to take the 2-1 lead. A three-point surge starting and ending with Johnson kills tied it up, 12-12, but a block by Emma Flewell and Lexi Riggs put the hosts back up by three. Trailing by three again, this time 19-16, Haynie dropped in a kill and evened the score with another to the scoreboard. Trailing 22-20, Johnson powered one in to the back line and Haynie followed with an ace to tie things up. This sequence was part of a 5-1 run as the Gators were able to take set three, 25-23.
The momentum carried over into the fourth as SF State got big kills by Jensen, Johnson and Haynie for a 6-1 advantage. A 7-0 run extended that lead to 13-2 with the Gators benefiting from five Lumberjack miscues. Barr recorded another big swing and Jensen notched her third ace of the eventing to make it a commanding 20-7 lead. Humboldt State would cut it to nine, 22-13, bit Haynie and Johnson ended things with their ninth and 17th kills, respectively, for the victory.Â
